CREATIVE DIRECTOR

With a background in blue-chip natural history and feature documentary projects, indie filmmaker Alex Verner was brought up on the Atlantic shores of Ireland's west coast and it was there, where a keen photographic interest in wilderness, light and landscapes would emerge and inevitably develop into a deep understanding of cinematic imagery and powerful, emotive storytelling.

Starting out in South Africa filming wildlife television, Alex’s cinematography gained credit on BBC’s Elephants Without Borders, David Attenborough’s Nature’s Great Events and National Geographic’s award winning Night of the Lion. Returning to the UK and swapping the ‘big five’ for the big bikes of the Isle of Man, Alex joined the principle photography team for the acclaimed, theatrically released story of Guy Martin in TT3D: Closer to the Edge.

This move into action sports became a natural segue into commercial content, working for globally recognised brands such as UFC, Nissan, Goodyear and Jaguar Land Rover. With the influx of smart technologies into the automotive sector, a unique opportunity arose to lead the creative development on a world-first experiment with Audi Sport and Imperial College London, analysing the efficacy of A.I. systems in cars versus elite human drivers. This work resulted in a credited paper in the renowned scientific journal, ‘Nature’ and set the path for Alex to become a sought after creative authority in the artificial intelligence sector.

Very recently, in 2021, Verner took a chance on another passion subject matter and was proud to release his revelatory, philosophical film about Ireland's greatest painter - Jack Butler Yeats. Produced by Averner Films for RTÉ, it is written with celebrated novelist Colm Tóibín and narrated by the wonderful Pierce Brosnan. The Irish Times described it as 'Hauntingly Beautiful’ and it was nominated for several prestigious accolades including a Royal Television Society Award and took a winners laureate at the ‘Master of Art’ film festival. It has also been acquired by Sky following its success in Ireland.

Now, in 2023, his long standing passion for A.I. has finally culminated in the production of ‘Cyborg Society’, an exciting and original 60min documentary that’s been made with Free Turn Executive Producer Jeremy Groman and Bafta award winning Executive Producer Adam Gee.
